2007 Africa Pavilion Ambassadors

Each year a number of Africans are selected as ambassadors for the Folklorama African Pavilion. ACOMI is proud to announce the following selected individuals as ambassadors at the 2007 Folklorama Festival. The 2007 festival will be held from 5th - 18th August with the Africa Pavilion operating from 5th - 11th August

Kweku Paul Matthews - Ghana

Kweku Matthews is an 18year old man from the Ghanaian community who was a youth ambassador in 2006 Folklorama and a dancer for several years. Kweku would like to be an ambassador because he wants to continue his exposure to multiculturalism. As an ambassador in 2006, he realized how diverse Africa and the world are.

He would love to improve his leadership qualities and work towards raising awareness of certain issues that involve Africans abroad.
 

Olalekan Tijani - Nigeria

Olalekan Tijani is an 18year old man from the Nigerian community who has been a volunteer of the Africa Pavilion in various capacities. He is fluent in English, French and Yoruba.

Olalekan would like to be an ambassador for the Africa Pavilion because he believes he can truly represent the continent of Africa in a positive light. He believes that the general public is sometimes very stereotypical about Africans and what the continent of Africa is really like. As an ambassador, he can aid in showcasing the tradition and rich heritage to the public and correct any misperceptions they have. As an African, he is proud of his background and hope to bring forth his pride to the pavilion.
 

Yohanna Asghedom - Eritrea

Yohanna Asghedom is a 15year old girl from the Eritrean Community whose volunteer activities include 6yrs as a dancer at the Africa Pavilion, city of Winnipeg swimming instructor for children (ages 5 and 6),and assisting elderly people in gift wrapping.

Yohanna will like to be an ambassador so that she can represent Africans in Folklorama. She would like to teach African culture to the rest of the world and also learn other cultures. Throughout her involvement with the Eritrean community, she notices that the children are motivated by the Folklorama activities and she hopes to become a role model for the younger ones and help them realize that the Africa Pavilion is a wonderful place to volunteer.
 

Senhit Helen Mehari - Eritrea

Senhit Helen Mehari is a 16year old girl from the Eritrean community who dances at the Africa Pavilion with the Eritrean dance troop. She would like to be an ambassador for the chance to represent Africa; her homeland that she loves so much.

She would like to portray Africa in a positive way and help showcase Africa's talents and culture to the people of Winnipeg and Canada as a whole.
