2006 African Pavilion Ambassadors

Each year a number of Africans are selected as ambassadors for the Folklorama African Pavilion. Acomi is proud to announce the following selected individuals as ambassadors at this year's Folklorama. We wish them the very best.

Temesghen Ghebregziabher - Eritrea

Temesghen is a forty-five year, English, Tigrgna and Amharic speaking man, who is associated with the Eritrian Community of Winnipeg. Temesghen has volunteered at the Africa pavilion from 2004-2005, in the area of transportation and looking after the dancers.

As a male adult ambassador, Temesghen feels it's an honour to represent Africa. He also feels it would give him a chance to meet new people and introduce Africa to non-Africans. Temesghen loves to volunteer when he has the time.

Chinyere (Chichi) Asagwara - Nigeria

Chichi is a twenty-two year old, English speaking, who is associated with the Nigerian Association of Young Adults. Chichi has volunteered at the Africa pavilion as a babysitter from 2001-2003 and a daycare coordinator from 2004-2005.

As a female adult ambassador, Chichi would like to learn more about her continent and country, so she can help educate and share her culture with other people. Chichi would also like to be a part of the event that changes people’s lives for the better year after year.

Kweku Paul Matthews - Ghana

Kweku is a seventeen year old, English speaking young man, who also understands French dialogue but cannot speak it fluently and is associated with the Ghanaian Association of Manitoba. Kweku has been a dancer at Folklorama for over five years. During this time Kweku has danced every show and sometimes more than once per show.

Kweku feels he will be a good male youth ambassador with his  great leadership qualities and he takes great pride in being African. Kweku would also be interested in spreading his culture and teaching others of the great values of Africa. Kweku believes it is important to spread knowledge and gain knowledge of your culture, so that our children and their children will know what their origins are. As an ambassador he would stand out and show the true glory of the motherland.

Patricia Kumbakisaka - DR Congo

Patricia is a seventeen year old, who speaks fluent English, French and Greek and good Swahili or Kiswahili and Romanian. Patricia has never been a volunteer at the Africa pavilion, however she has observed what makes a youth ambassador and realizes that voluntary service is a commitment, which expresses the will to put oneself in the service of the community, and it’s what always holds her heart.

As a female youth ambassador, Patricia would like to communicate and confirm the  legitimacy of an Africa pavilion; to explain to the world (guests) Africa’s multi-ethnic values; make guests appreciate the African heat, the atmosphere and the various food (dishes); and the accomplishments in all their curiosities or questions.
